How Much Are You Really Investing In Your Dreams?…

Transcript Of This Masterclass Lecture:

“This may trigger you. And if it does, that is a good thing! It asks us to really look at our actions with conscious awareness of what we are doing and not just move through the world unaware…Or even sleepwalking. If it does trigger you, then you need to honestly ask yourself, ‘Why does this freaking trigger me so much?’ ‘Easy’ and acting do not marry. They divorce very quickly. Let’s put things into perspective…Think about how much time you are putting into a job that is not what your end goal is. Think about that.Think about how many hours you are putting into something that is not what, at the end of the day, you are passionate about doing. Who is getting your energy? What is getting your energy? Now, it is no secret, and more importantly, there is no shame whatsoever that we have to do things to support ourselves while we are in this crazy field of being an actor, right? We have to support ourselves…We have to make an income…A lot of times, the work that we do get to do as actors is here or there, and it doesn’t always fulfill giving us everything we need to make a full income. So we have that (those) ‘safety job(s)’. That (Those) necessary job(s). But if you really think about it, how much energy are you matching the energy that you’re putting into someone else’s business when you are doing those jobs? And then how much energy are you putting into your own business? Meaning you, the actor that wants to be an actor? Think about that. Your boss is getting ‘rich’ (in what they are intending to accomplish-whatever that may be for him or her) thanks to you. You’re working hard for your boss’ dreams. You’re working hard to make your boss’ dreams come true. Think about it. For example…You’re exhausting yourself so your boss can go on ‘vacation’…So your boss can ‘provide’ for his or her family…So your boss can buy ‘nice cars’… So your boss can ‘take lessons to learn something else’…So your boss can ‘buy a boat’…So your boss can invite family and friends over to his or her ‘beautiful house’…You’re doing that. And people like you are doing that. Now I am not saying that is your intention of working that job…Your intention is to take care of yourself and those you are responsible for taking care of…But, regardless of your intention, you are still working hard and that very energy is, without question, going into fulfilling your boss’ intention..His or her dreams. But what are you doing for yourself to make that happen for you? Meaning your dreams…Whatever they may be for you? How much energy are you putting into your dreams being realized? How much commitment are you putting into making yourself an actor? Every time you build and maintain certain structures for your ‘safety job’, you’re justifiably fulfilling that structure to succeed…Because that is why you are hired. Well as an actor, you have a structure that you need to build as a foundation to allow your business to stand strong and succeed…And to be able to weather the storms when they come. How many hours are you putting into being an actor? And if you’re not doing that, where do you think it’s going to happen from? Who’s going to do it for you? Do you think it’s just going to happen spontaneously? Do you think just your raw talent is enough to actually get and have a job that’s for the long run? You have to, first of all, do all you can to even be seen to even be considered for the job. And more importantly, you have to know what you are doing in regards to the craft and in the business. And you have to actively be the most important participant in that very pursuit of your own business! You have to be your hardest working employee and also the CEO! Yes, you may be lucky enough to get a job here or there, but as we all know, every single job an actor will get his fleeting. It will always end…And you will always have to find something else to sustain you. You always have to go on another audition…You always have to hope that another job…that next job…will come along. So who are you really taken care of right now? Yes, you’re taking care of yourself financially because you have to…it’s justifiable….it is necessary. But as an artist, who are you really taken care of? And you have to be really honest with yourself. How much am I really putting into being and doing what I want while I am here on this planet? You’re not promised tomorrow…Your promised right now…So if God forbid you’re not here tomorrow, have you been able to say to yourself…Can you honestly say to yourself…’I have given it my all to do what I feel like I’ve been brought here to do.’? Or, are you saying I work hard just to pay my bills…To play it safe…And so my boss can succeed in his or her dreams? Where are you in that? Where are you in that? Think about it.”
I hope you enjoy this masterclass lecture.
Much Love,

You Know What They Say About Assumptions, Right?…

In this Masterclass lecture, we open class by discussing the crucial nature of accountability in our line of work. Accountability is a scary thing to face when you really think about it. It really asks us to look at where we are in our artistic pursuit, and come to terms with if we are really giving our work the all that this industry demands. Especially when the “payoff” does not come right away. And it is something that seems to not be very much part of the curriculum these days while learning and exercising the craft! Yikes! That is a huge mistake! They go hand in hand. They are dependentupon each other. This can be taken for granted especially if the actor does not have, at this moment, the opportunity to be doing this kind of work full time. It is easy to allow oneself to use the terms, “I will do it a little later...” or “I’m tired…I’m beat… I’ll take care of it tomorrow…” or just waiting for someone else out there to do the work. Or, that “big dream” of simply waiting for that one in a million chance of “being discovered“. Come on…NO!!! Find a different career if that is your mentality. Do something much easier…less heartbreaking. We have to wake up and get out of this present-day “tomorrow” mentality! We only have now! We have to get out of our own way and show up to the plate! In other words, to be quite blunt, stop making excuses! If you really want things to pay off, if you really want a shot at this, you have to work your butt off for it. You have to exercise every muscle possible…personally, artistically and professionally…so it is all there supporting you in all areas of your career path. And you have to remember that THIS IS A BUSINESS! And I think it is safe to say it is not a very forgiving business when it comes to lack of accountability, professionalism, and responsibility. The actor, or any artist for that matter, has to be the CEO of his, her or their own corporation. You have to be your own boss and you have to hold yourself accountable for what is necessary for your business to succeed because YOU ARE YOUR BUSINESS! In other words, do not get complacent. Do not get comfortable. And, dear God, do not get lazy! Have professional and artistic standards and hold yourself to them! You must remember that this type of work is deeply hungered and craved by an enormous amount of artists who dearly love this art form. So it cannot be overlooked that for every person that is not willing to do all the necessary work and hold himself, herself or themselves accountable, there is someone out there who most definitely will… and then work ten times as hard for it. Why? Because he, she or they REALLY want it. The professional, no matter what career one is pursuing, needs to hold themselves to that same standard that they would expect if someone was working for them to allow for success. That means continually exercising that professional muscle in all areas, with complete fullness and specificity, so there is nothing logistically, professionally, or artistically that can stand in your way to succeed. So…Your health will always be number one (and that comes in many forms which you obviously have to navigate for yourself)! But then be sure to always communicate. Answer professional calls. Respond to professional texts and emails. Show up on time (which really means show up early). Keep exercising your craft. Do the work. All of it. Do not allow professional gaps to be the thing that stand in your way of your success. Because I can promise you, in the blink of an eye, someone else will be there waiting to do what you have allowed to pass you by. And, don’t forget, word and reputation travel fast in this business. So be mindful! And care! Lastly, we bring the lecture to a close with a review of really understanding how to break down the material, WITHOUT ASSUMPTIONS, and then really diving into formulating the spine in order to fully reveal the character that a writer has created. And then going that much deeper by using this very very important question (which happens to be a very potent single word) about behavior, triggers, reactions, and the human conditon…And that word is: “WHY?” Keep asking yourself “WHY” as you work on finding and discovering the character. The more you ask “WHY“,  the deeper your understanding of the character grows, and the deeper you can find that within you! So give it your all! And enjoy giving it your all. Nurture your career…your work…your art, with the same love and care that it truly deserves.
I hope you enjoy this lecture!

Making $#!+ Happen!

If you are not willing to do the work…

Guess what?

There is someone out there who most certainly is.

As harsh as that may seem, it is absolutely true!

And as artists, this is true x 1000%.

In an industry where there are countless artists pursuing creative paths, you better believe that you have to fully show up to the plate if you expect to break in and break through.

It is the difference between an idea and a dream.

It is the difference between a hobby and a career.

An idea and a hobby are great but there is no personal risk factor if it does not happen.

In other words, your insides are not going to be tied up in knots and you are not going to lose sleep if it does not happen for you.

It is very c’est la vie.

When we get into dreams and a career, it matters.

You better believe it matters!

You want it.

You yearn for it.

You eat, drink and sleep it.

And if it is not happening, it most likely hurts.

It can even break your heart in its absence!

It means something to you in ways that make no sense other than your soul simply craves it.

But having dreams can only take you as far as you are willing to put in the work to make those dreams materialize.

Otherwise, they are just sitting there playing around in some imaginative part of your brain pressing upon that button that makes you hope and wish for that special something that it is going to magically make those dreams actualize before your very eyes.

But it does not work that way!

The common denominator with those fulfilling their dreams is that they work their asses off to make it happen.

When I think of all my students and clients out there that are having great successes, I can tell you first hand how much work and sacrifice they have put into the work they so profoundly love.

And once they are actually doing the work they love, they are working their asses off to make sure that the quality of work they are putting out there is congruent with all the work they did to actually make it all happen.

You have to do the work to make it happen!

And let’s be honest…

There are no days off if nothing is happening.

Even if it is one small thing everyday towards your goals…

Do it!

Do not wait until tomorrow!

Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Many small things add up miraculously to become huge breakthroughs.

Sometimes this means making healthy and productive sacrifices along the way to make your dreams happen.

But no one is going to do the work for you.

These are your dreams and you have to be accountable for putting in all the necessary components…

And that includes the work.

If you want to experience a reality that allows you to do what you always dreamt of doing, you have to make it not just a dream.

You need to get yourself together and start getting in there and getting your hands dirty making the path to the destination.

First, you need the passion.

That passion is the thing that drives you forward no matter how many obstacles appear along the way.

And the majority of the time, there will be obstacles.

But it is that passion that keeps your eye on the prize and reminds you of the intention of what you are going after.

And that passion is necessary because it reiterates that whatever you are going after is alive and burning beautifully in your soul.

It is that passion that allows you to meet those obstacles eye to eye, learning from them, and then using them towards your goal.

Next, you need a fire in your belly that excites you and uses your creative resources to actually start creating.

That very fire gets things out of your head and into tangible reality.

It is that fire that allows you to experiment, to fall down, to make mistakes, and to learn what is useful and what is not along the path to making it all happen.

Then there is inspiration.

You need to be inspired to keep those creative juices flowing in your Spirit to want to continue to artistically explore and implement action towards your goals.

And if you are lacking inspiration…

Go seek it out!

Open your eyes…

And your ears…

And your heart!

Walk outside and just witness the splendor in everything around you.

There is a story in everything.

And this includes things you may have thought are just meaningless objects.

Allow Life to feed your soul so you can feed your creative path.

And then there is the discipline.

You need some kind of personal discipline to hold youself accountable for not allowing the momentum of what you are going after to slip through the cracks.

That discipline is a practice, just like any other practice, that keeps you productive and moving forward.

It keeps you learning.

It keeps you growing.

It keeps you trying.

It keeps your experimenting.

It keeps you expanding.

It keeps you active.

And it keeps you productive.

Finally, and most importantly, the work has to be fun.

The second you allow the fun to dissolve…

The second the enjoyment goes out the window…

It is no longer a dream…

It becomes a burden.

And that burden dampens the passion…

It smothers the fire…

It turns out the lights on inspiration.

And it turns productive discipline into a boring and unwilling obligation.

And then all is lost.

Keep it fun and remind yourself of why you chose your creative path to begin with.

So with all that said…

What are you waiting for?

Hold yourself accountable for the realization of your dreams.

Be the one that goes to work for you because you want it and you know it is possible.

Be the CEO of your own Life and continue to grow, learn, expand and evolve.

And if you are becoming aware that any of the above components are missing, you gotta change things up so you can make $#!+ happen!

You have to be your own grand manifester.

By the nature of who we are as artists, we are already creative beings which means we already have that manifestation gene within us.

We have to utilize it if we expect$#!+ to happen.

Be the one that makes it happen for you and then experience the bliss of our dreams as your reality!

When One Door Closes

“When one door closes, do not waste a moment getting swallowed up by the lies of self doubt.
Cut a hole in a wall and make your own damn door!
That’s how fierce you are!”~#MarioCampanaro ©
